Yet another snow storm

It's snowing out again. This storm won't be a record breaker (3-5" in the Boston area) but enough to be annoying. I have been finding and watching a lot of online documentaries from BBC, CBC, PBS, Discovery, National Geographic, Travel Channel, etc, etc. I have always found documentaries more entertaining and informative than the stuff served up from the major network slop troughs. I cannot turn on and watch mainstream Teevee without my blood pressure going through the roof after a half hour of viewing.

I'd like a new quad core Power Spec system with 12 GIG of ram, 1 GIG VRAM and a TB of disk space.

This may be the past post for a while, or until I figure out of my PC is breathing it's last. It keeps powering down or not booting then works for a while, but so far diagnostics have not turned anything up. But after all it is 7 years old and has been heavily used. I've copied what key files I can remember to external drives, but i never keep any important or irreplaceable stuff on the main drive, have 2 redundant copies of everything on separate external drives.

When I was a boy, an ubiquitous sign on many lawns was the bathtub Madonna, we were a quasi Judeo Christian sort of land back in the time before cell phone zombies, texting and 24x7 porn movie channels.

I was in Jamaica Plain recently walking through some of the less ghettoized bombed out streets and noticed a number of bathtub Buddha's, a bathtub Vishnu and even a shrine to Satan or some horned devil figure. I didn't see any Madonnas or weeping Jesus statues but then I stayed clear of the predominately hispanic housing projects. It won;t be too long before the US as a country totally collapses into chaos and black hispanic mobs will be out slaughtering gringos/whitey. I have overheard some of the gossip on the street. And all of this is being orchestrated by the demonic elite, but most are totally blind to what is going on. If the black/hispanic and everyone else want to went anger, direct it where it belongs, to the international banker/industrialist elite...oh but they keep themselves well protected within fortified gated compounds. Satan protects his own.

Winter arrives 2 months early

It's either the NWO shadow gummint firing up HAARP for some weather warfare on the sheep, god's wrath, or the planet's just plain fucked and we are with it, but Winter has come to New England 2 months early, with record breaking snows, over 2 feet in some areas of Massachusetts..this truly sucks, but I predicted it 6-9 months ago. the voices in my head tell me things before they happen and they have never been wrong yet. This will be a history making Winter, and not in a good way.

Once again I'm up to my eyeballs in medical problems so have not been in a mood to write much, plus the big push for globalization and to stuff every incompatible 3rd world savage culture into ours will backfire, but not for the richest 1%, who will be safely insulated from when the shit really hits the fan. Don't get me started on the PC neo liberals and neo cons...

The older I get the more I hate humanity; not just the usual suspects, ghetto blacks and hispanics but the whole TV hypnotized lot of'em. Living around Boston my entire life hasn't helped. 100 pounds of shit stuffed on a 5 pound multicultural bag, where no one speaks the same language, unless it's Spanglish. Yes Boston is one of the richest cities in the former United States (for the elite few that is and the aspiring yuppies) but for the rest, it's becoming a 3rd world country.

Anyhow, I've talked to a large number of aging curmudgeons who see things the way I do. We'll be the first they send to the reeducation camps, which will be Soylent Green production plants (bon appetite!)

The gen-z (yuppies) and their offspring (millenials) are rude, which might make up for some of the statistic I read this past Spring that Boston came in at the number 2most rude, arrogant city in the US...what! we're not number 1! As I ride the daily buses and subways, 90% of young urban pretentious are yakking on cell phones, texting, playing video games, iPadding, anything but acknowledging that there are other humans around them. It gets creepier as each day passes. It's getting where I feel like I'm living in the movie "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"

Yuppie and millennial women remind me of Bride of Frankenstein, at least the hair and pouty expressions. The Bride of Frank hairdo seems to be really in these days among young professional women.

Then there's the yammering in 120 different languages and various modes of tribal dress I see every day. There seems to be an abundance of interracial boot knocking going on, which should make for some interesting hybrid offspring

Yesterday I was riding the subway and this morbidly obese (not sure if she was black or hispanic maybe some of both but her very loud language was almost unintelligible) woman boarded the subway like she was driving a bulldozer (actually pushing a double wide baby stroller containing 2 very robust year somethings), dragging another one behind by the wrist and it looked like she had fourth bun on the oven. Well, she opened a big Mickie D's bag and began shoving french fries, McNuggets and burgers in the kid's mouths. The kids were barely able to chew as she shoved more into their maws, then jamming a straw in their faces from a jumbo milk shake. The oldest of her brood looked no older than 3 or 4, but the whole crew were very obese. The kids'll be on insulin and getting their first coronary stints before they reach puberty at this rate.

Someone on the bus one day told me she saw a blog dedicated to the author's experiences riding the Boston T.

I'm breaking my own record for TV abstinence. I have not turned on that rotten box as a TV since mid January, only using it now and then as a big monitor to watch YouTube and Google videos. I am sure now that TV, cable as well as broadcast network TV is a deadly neurotoxin.

The Illuminati ate my homework

There's no techno, tribal or gay dance muzak on this week's list of links. The only music I linked to are a few protest songs and an old classic standard, September Song from the 1930's. I Watched Woody Allen's "Radio Days" again after September Song kept playing in my head during labor Day weekend. The song does capture the emotions I feel whenever September comes around, a bittersweet mixture of the coming dread of Winter, mixed with an exhilaration of football weather, warm enough to still go out in shirt sleeves, but with a crisp clear edge to it. The other side of the coin is September can be a cold raw month dominated by drizzling rain and torrential downpours.

The worst part of September for me is how it almost seems someone flipped a switch, the sun sets so much earlier, or seems to anyway. I've always been hyper sensitive to changes in weather and light, every year enduring the onset of one of the most severe cases of SAD. There are many renditions of this classic but here's Sarah Vaughn's version of September Song

The kids are back to school and most people are back to work from vacation. Seeing how there appear to be double the number of passengers riding the T on a daily basis compared to July and August. Boston's population increases by a couple of hundred thousand every September with the return of college students.

One late breaking iotem I wanted to include in here was a short news clip about a church closing it's food bank because it was attracting too many poor people. Talk about a catch 22. 15 Seconds of fame

I got my 15 seconds of fame as I stepped off the bus to come home Thursday. My next door neighbor stopped me to let me know I had missed all the excitement. Police stormed a house across the street, hauling off a couple of hundred pot plants, all sorts of growing paraphernalia, lights, estimated at worth $150,000. As the long arm of the law drove off, the local Faux nooze team interviewed a few of us "were you shocked at how this could be happening on such a quiet street in such a peaceful town as this?" ....actually as uneasy as the drug issue made me feel, it didn't shock me at all. I have never liked being around drugs or the people sell/consume them. We would up being shown on a couple of news clips, and since then about 25-30 strangers have stopped and said "Hey you're that guy who was on the news last night." or the one that was ALMOST humorous which tells me people may "stare at" the TV screen but do they really "watch" and "pay attention" to what is said. One guy today stopped and said, "hey you're that guy they arrested for growing all that marijuana, wow man you got balls." I explained in as simple terms as possible, "no it clearly stated "I am merely a passing neighbor the TV news was interviewing for comment. If I was that guy who was for growing the pot, I would be in jail and not here talking to you."

I attended the Boston Tattoo Convention today at the Sheraton, which is a pleasant diversion from my humdrum reality. Nawww, I really didn't get tempted to add more ink to my collection....yet, but it is interesting to people watch and see what sorts of art others are wearing, plus getting into random conversations with artists from around the state, country and world, plus chatting with other inked folks.

Last year after I attended the convention I also was approached by a couple of dozen people for a couple of days, "hey I saw you on the news last night, you are at that tattoo convention in Boston." I never really thought of myself as that distinguished looking, fairly ugly yes, but not a face that would stick out in a crowd, although a few people have said that they found me hard to mistake for anyone else, adding that I was "unusual" looking....gee thanks, I think I'll step in front of a bus.

"I'm 63 and I'm Tired"

I'm 63 . Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honour"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offence; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari’a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and mandrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America and Canada , while no American nor Canadian group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off?

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm damn tired . But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

Irene, God's Wrath, HAARP, etc

I have been too depressed to write but I'll give it a try again, on this last night before the end of the world, Version 2011.11.12 revision D.

The last major hurricane I remember is Carol, back in 1953 which left my home town without power for over a week. We've has a few wanna be hurricane since in Eastern Mass, but Carol was the one that always sticks out in my mind.

I don't trust the media or gummint to tell the truth about anything, and this isn't the ranting of a tin foil helmet, but based in the honest truth about gummint and those in power or who have entitlement. The United States silently passed away many years ago, around the time President Kennedy was assassinated, maybe even before, but few care, after decades of systematically being dumbed down by the media and educational system.

But anyway enough of that, since any words are apt to fall on deaf ears. Irene is supposed to come in during the night increasing to full force during the entire day tomorrow. Boston could get 6-12" of rain on top of 6-10" or rain that has fallen during the past few weeks. Nobody knows yet how bad it will b e but the corporate media has been quick to spin out every worst case scenario.

I didn't prepare other than having a full tank of gas and batteries for my shortwave radio and LED flashlights, plus a big box of candles that has sat in the back of the hall closet for 10 years, plus a few cases of water in the same closet left over from the water aqueduct break crisis last year.

Other than that due to black hole deep depression, there is no food in the house except for a few boxes of crackers, 4 jars of peanut butter, a few pounds of trail mix and 8 boxes of Cheerios, raisin bran and Kashi. That should hold me for a few days until Fema comes through to kill all of the undesirables, based on what I have read via the alternative and foreign news services regarding the gummint and police gross abuse of the little people......but we'll see.

The thumpers are jumping for joys as they are sure this marks the end of the world drawing near and the triumphant return of Jesus who will whisk the spiritual creme-de-la-creme away to their deluxe eternal retirement condos while sending the remaining 99.999% of us (me included) to an eternity of unthinkable torment for not following Jesus 1000% with a 100% pure heart. Well that leaves me out in the heavenly condo giveaway. I have become so very embittered toward organized religion, particularly the fundamentalist variety.

But anyway here I sit as Irene makes her way North. There's been a lot of thunder and the lights have flickered a few times, but this isn't the hurricane...yet. A few times in the past the part of town I live in has been under water from storms but not since I've lived here.

Overall I have been having visions and dreams, but none of them pleasant. Very soon the total and utter collapse of society as we know it, probably with a year or two tops. I just pray I'm not here to actually see it all come to pass.

That's enough cheerful forecasts for now. If Boston is still intact after this weekend, the tattoo convention will be in town over labor Day weekend. My life is so dead and empty that the convention will mark the high point of my Summer.

I would have liked to attend the weekly Dharma meditation group I sometimes drop in on, but it's been cancelled due to Irene, smart move on their part.

Since I have absolutely no social life (you need friends and family for that) I spend a lot of time just trying to fill the days as they pass. The evenings are pissed away reading articles, listening to music and watching videos online. Here's a rather big list of some of the stuff I've consumed during the week.

Insanity is the norm

I'm sitting her at home n a Friday night, the same way as I have for years, totally alone, quiet, with no human contact. I'm not happy with the situation, but just about all of the few friends I had passed away years ago. It is not easy to make new friends in your mid 60's, especially when You have no social notwork at all to begin with. I was never particularly good looking by any stretch of the imagination, and the closest I ever got to having a compliment was "you're easy to pick out in a crowd, because you're odd looking." Our society, especially in yuppie infested places like major cities, regions like new England, etc place great value on looks, beauty, youth and social status. Imperfections are looked down upon....some day hopefully those who fancy themselves as too sexy for their harts will get their day in court.

Along with this I have learned I am not alone in my observations that people are getting "even MORE" rude, arrogant, self absorbed as time passes. It's getting to the point where I'm developing a social phobia about being out and about.

I have not turned on my TV since January since the extreme spikes in blood pressure after less than an hour of viewing on any channel have gotten worse, but I usually have no problem at all watching hours worth of YouTube and Google videos and documentaries. There have also been no movies at all that I would want to see at a theater or but on DVD over the past few years. This could be due to the deep depression I have been living with for the past few years, or that I am realising that there is not much worth watching or listening to that comes out of the major media outlets (sewer pipes)

When I do turn on a TV or am exposed to mainstream media news, the instances of insanity and random mayhem seem to be on the rise, why not since the entire system is corrupt and falling apart, and on some subconscious level most people realise this and it's making them crazy.

Some of my problem could very well be burnout, reaching my mid 60's with no friends or anything else to show for it. The one marriage I had was a disaster and childless. I can clearly see the importance of traditional marriage and raising a family now.

Today light has been replaced by darkness, sweet with sour, good with evil. Everything has been turned upside down and labeled as progress.

Right now New England is in the midst of the heat wave that's been baking other parts of the country. Temps hit 103 in Boston today, and it felt every degree of it, plus the heat index which bumped it up to about 110. More of the same is forecast for tomorrow with this wave breaking Sunday or Monday.

This is just another small part of the overall weirdness that's settled over the entire planet. The US of A is now pretty much just an Afro-Hispanic third world banana republik, but the liberal Bahstun PC crowd cares more about gay rights, gay marriage and transsexual issues than the face that out elected and non elected keepers are fucking the lower to middle class up the butt on a daily basis and they all smile and ask for more. There is also a huge influx of Chinese, Islamic and Russian people at least around the Northeast. Are they our new keepers. But fear not WWIII should be coming soon....and them there fundamentalist Christians of a certain stripe are jumping up and down praying that Armageddon comes soon, so that Jesus can return to reward the Bible believers and punish the sinning masses. According to the bible about 99.9% of us are hell bound.

Almost daily I ride the T buses and subways to and from downtown observing all the angry, confused and shell shocked faces with their Thorazine eyes, nonstop barking or texting away on their cell phones. SO long as they stay distracted they don't have to be confronted with the emptiness of their own lives. Along with all that nonsense is the absolute levels of rudeness, arrogance that accompanies a young society raised on entitlement.

I also sit there in my seat (on the rare occasions I can find a seat) looking at everyone else's ink now that short sleeves to no sleeves are the uniform of the dog dayz of Summer

Happy July 4th to those who celebrate it. The only significance the day has for me now is that today is my 22nd sobriety anniversary, or 22 years of leaning into the shit filled wind without anything to numb the pain. I stopped believing the American fairy tales over 40 years ago when I was in the military in the middle of the Vietnam debacle (another make believe war that made the multinational banksters and industrialists even more filthy rich than before, nothing has changed before or after Nam, Murca is still by, of and for the richest and most powerful.

A few things I notice about the under 40 crowd and especially the millennial brats of entitlement, at least in the Boston and it's suburbs. This mostly excludes Black and Hispanic Gen XY and Millennials, but among the rest

Both male and female tend to be taller than my generation, both quite svelte and leanly muscled. The guys all have tiny waists and broad shoulders and I noticed that a majority are inked, both guys and gals. I don't know what the big fad is about fauxhawk hair styles in men but I wish it would die a quick quiet death.

This old geezer can't help but overhear the conversations of the young, on the bus and subways, or in cafes and on the street. All they seem to talk about is facebook (GACK!), fucked up girl/boy friends and money, to be honest they sound as dumb as a box of rocks, with the vocabulary sounding like valley girls. The only Millennials I enjoy talking with seem to work in book and music stores or the geeks in computer stores and some in Best Buy...kids with brains who actually know what's going on.

I got the finishing touches done on my third, and final tattoo, a tribal upper back piece, maybe a picture will come later. Since it is now Summer, it's interesting to observe other people's ink.

Pride Goeth Before Destruction 2011

I years past I wrote long entries about observing Boston's annual gay pride parade, but during these past few years I'd rather not be within 1000 miles of the nonsense. This year was no exception, plus it poured dogs and cats most of the weekend, but it was still one of the longest parades, which I watched part of online. These are not my people, this is not my time, so I'm just glad all the "gay pride" hoopla of the past week is over and done with, not to be replaced with sports hysteria after the Boston Bruins winning the Stanley cup.

I'm one of the minority who has no interest at all in any sports. You would think the second coming of Jesus Christ was taking place in Boston. Actually there wouldn't be near the excitement if Jesus showed up vs one of their beloved sports teams winning a cup, pennant, trophy. I was sitting in a coffee shop, every flat screen teevee tuned to a sports channel showing the Bruins returning to Boston greeted by swooning fans. You would think the players were carrying the chalice that Jesus drank from at the Last Supper and not a sports trophy.

I'm not religious, not call myself saved by any means, but isn't this sports insanity yet another form of "idolatry", along with teevee/movie star worship, rock star worship, lady gaga worship, etc. I was never a groupie for sports, music or teevee/movie personalities.

But then again all of this, gay pride, black/hispanic/klingon pride, it's all an illusion. Sports and entertainment, lady gaga and all are nothing more than opiates (bread and circus) to keep the sheep from waking up

George Carlin summed things up better than most anyone.

Return of the cell phone zombies

As times has passed recently, I become more aware that I don't belong here and my birth was a total fluke of nature, a mistake. At times I think even my therapist might even agree with me, although I doubt she really does.

I ride the T (Mass Bay Transit) buses and subways daily, since 99% of anything I need to get done is easily reachable on the T, and as well as being politically korrect for the environment (like I really give a shit about that), but having an "old folks/disabled" card makes it very inexpensive to ride vs using my car.

The downside is that ridership has increased by about 30% over the past year as the T had cur back on services to most buses and subways are much more crowded than they used to be, so it's not really pleasure trips as I'm (and everyone else is) shoulder to shoulder with homeless mentally ill people, crack junkies, elderly, 4th world minorities, screaming yuppie brats and of yes....cell phone zombies, which cross all social, ethnic and economic ranges. A real swell time is had my all but once in a while someone loses it, like a big fat guy who kept looking very nervous and for no reason began hollering, "NIGGERS, CRACK SMOKING NIGGERS everywhere, Crack smoking NIGGERS and FAGGOTS....STOP THIS BUS STOP IT RIGHT NOW NIGGERS!" The bus pulled over at the next stop and he trampled a dozen riders as he scrambled for the exit. A bit black muscular guy with long dreadlocks and tribal tats was standing next to me. He looked at me and I looked back, we both shrugged and I said "it's gonna get a lot worse". He raised his eyebrows replying, "I hear ya there man." Usually my commute on the T is much quiet and not quite that loony, but having 75% of fellow passengers yakking on cell phones or texting away, in total oblivion to anyone else wears on those of us who do NOT feel the need to be connected to someone...anyone! 24x7. Oh yes and then there are the delightful yuppies with baby strollers who board the buses and trolleys, especially the ones pushing double wide $2500 deluxe yuppie models.

Then it dawned on me that yuppie children are accessories, just like their iPhones, iPads, BMW's, 70" LED TV's and $85,000 home theaters are. Actually they're more like trophies, yep trophy children, who are destined to be the leaders of the new world disorder...or so mommy and daddy think so.

When I was a tiny tot, back before the days of indoor plumbing or electricity parents stayed home with the kids, or if they needed to get out they had a baby sitter.

In these modern "a go-g0" and much more demanding times, where child molestation by strangers is commonplace, baby must learn to adapt to mommy and daddy's busy schedule, so little pusgley or tiffany are always in tow, whether it be to a restaurant, movie, church, shopping, park, sex orgy or anything else, and every around then gets to enjoy little junior melting down and screaming his/here/it's lungs out. The yuppie ones do love to whine and cry and scream just because they can. I notice that the other children who were born of lesser gods and better behaved.

I know there has to be vast pockets of nice people who raise children who are a joy to be around, but this is the Boston/Cambridge...taxachusetts area after all.

The Purple Iris

It is definitely Spring here in Boston, after much waiting, it's been in the 80's and humid yesterday and today. I was walking through the Southwest Corridor in Boston's South End, stopping to look at the various gardens. The purple iris are up and in bloom, along with many other flowers. Iris are one of my favorite flowers, especially the purple ones, even though they have no fragrance.

We seem to have survived the rapture that never happened. These fringe loonies give Christianity a bum rap.

I don't have much to say right now, but am slowly trying to get more involved with a couple of senoir men's groups.

The end in less than 24 hours

Judgement day (tomorrow) has been all over the news this week, mostly in humorous drag. Amazing where some of the links in articles about 5/21/11 take me, like articles and videos claiming all pop muzak is satanic. I don't think I could ever make a good Christian as most of the raging "every jot and tittle" fundies drive me nuts.

Anyway I'm sure we'll all be tomorrow night after 6PM unless the secret demonic Illuminati gummint are going to use HAARP, Blue Beam or some other weapon of diabolical deception to cause a disaster or fake a rapture. But maybe just in case I am raptured I'll make a full image backup of my system and data disks to take along if I get raptured......uh huh, right.

Rain Rain, then judegement on 5/21

It figures Judgement day comes 2 days before my birthday. Things are not going well, actually getting worse medically. We're on our second full week of rain and crappy shitty weather, but it could be worse considering the disaster along the Mississippi.

Osama....I mean Obama is in Boston today. When I was walking to acupuncture this afternoon noticed enough roadblocks, militarized police and other law enforcement types within a few blocks of Boston Center for the Arts where our current Resident is visiting today on a fund gathering mission.

Speaking of Boston, the annual gay pride parade is in a couple of weeks, but I doubt I will bother going into town to watch or take pictures (these are not my people, this is not my time)

It never stops

I recently had cataract surgery and it did not go well, now technically blind in that eye plus my one good eye is not that good, large cataracts. This now changes everything, and not for the better. I may have some quick decisions to make. I returned the laptop I bought and got a full refund considering the circumstances.

Pulling back on the reigns

I've grown tired of the anxiety, depression and OCD ruling my life and have reaching for as many tools as possible to get me back where I once was before this cycle began almost 3 years ago, and I'm trying to do it without any psych meds as any and all drugs/meds that affect my head have a reverse and adverse result.

Now that the days are getting longer (spring has certainly not sprung here with temperatures more appropriate for January than late March) I'm getting out more

I'm giving away my 7+ year old ten pound laptop and picked up a nice light compact Sony laptop for $550; 3 pounds, amd dual core, 8 hr batttery, 4 gig ram, 500 gig drive, Windoz 7 premium, 11.5" screen, etc...perfect for carrying along with me in my shoulder bag. I'm also trying to get more involved with my AIDS/HIV service providers, volunteering attending more functions, at least getting out asnd about.

I'll be going over a design I have for my last tattoo with the artist that's done the tats I have, probably toward May.

Just a quick update, but keep your eyes and mind open for more events like the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster that hit Japan.

Consciousness stream

It's been a while since I wrote anything in here, so it's time for at least a quick thought stream dump.

This has been a Winter to end all Winters, or at least most of us in the Boston area are totally fed up with never ending snow, cold and more snow, or today, rain and lots of it.

A lot has been going on, mostly medical issues, erratic blood pressure tied into random free floating severe anxiety attacks that are triggered by nothing, or the ghosts of the hellfire'n'brmstone Christianity that I was raised and beaten bloody with. I'm current;y working on trying to break some of the unhealthy obsessive compulsive cycles that fuel the anxiety through meditation and redirecting of energy, with some limited success.

A lot of the emotional issues are also connected to my age and the fact that I spend 99.999% of my time totally alone.

That aside, I'm scheduled for cataract surgery in April as the cataracts have grown to where they interfere quite a bit in my daily life.

On March 7 it will be a year since I quit smoking cigarettes, after 28 years of heavy smoking and this time I quit with no external aids and had almost no withdrawal symptoms at all, I just didn't want to smoke any more. Something clicked in my head that was tired of smoking and found it a dirty and senseless, as well as expensive, habit.

I saw my regular doctor last week for the first time in about 9 months, since he returned from medical leave. This June will mark 6 years I have been off all HIV cocktail meds and my viral load has still remained undetectable and T4's in the low 500s. He sees no reason to go back on meds at this time since all my other blood work looks normal, including key ratios ratios. He did mention that I am one in 10,000, since almost no one has been able to go off HIV meds and remain stabler for any length of time, so I am rare and in a special study of patients like myself.

I got the second half of my latest tattoo, a custom tribal Gemini, done today and the artist did a splendid job, as he always does. The only remaining ink I want to get is an upper back/shoulder tribal piece, then that's it.

I have not turned a TV on for over a month since it was also driving my blood pressure up. Maybe they are sending mind control signals out as some tin foil helmet folks claim. But then I don't get the latest spoon fed news 24x7 or quality entertainment like Lady Gaga and Amerikan Idol. I'll just have to live my life deprived of all the quality programming. I have been reading much more in place of what time I spent vegetating in front of the tube....or should I say LCD screen.

I also have been spending much less time online and am weaning myself from all the tinfoil helmet stuff and more urgently getting away from watching all the addictive porn....and yes porn is highly addicting for those of us with no real lives or meaningful human contact.

But, hope springs eternal, or at least I HOPE it does. One more month of Winter until...maybe Spring arrives, unless we are actually in the end times, where things can only get worse. Anyhoo, I still hold out hope for Spring, regardless of my spine and legs problems being progressive. I once again look forward to being able to walk around without 10 layers of clothes, just a tank top and shorts where I can take my tattoos out for an airing.

Random axe of kindness

I was in bed by 9 last night curled up with a book and never saw the new year in. I picked up a copy of "Tattoo Machine" by Jeff Johnson and couldn't put it down. Of course I couldn't put down "Kitchen Confidential" or "Waiter Rant" Either.

2010 really sucked big time, at least for me. I could call it

The year of the mental/spiritual system crash and cold reboot

The year of angst and YouTube style night terrors

The year of yin/yang realignment

The year of finding the couple of people who have lived rent free in the penthouse suite of my head for 2 years and preparing eviction notices

The year of the tattoos

The year of medical weirdness

I decided to take myself out to breakfast this morning at a neighborhood diner. As expected the place was packed, strictly SRO except for a couple of seats at the counter (I'm not proud I'm hungry. I'll sit on the floor if necessary) so took a counter seat. I was sitting next to a black guy who was talking with a woman. His voice caught my attention because he sounded just like Morgan Freeman, and I also noticed he had arms full of tattoos. The subject of tats got a conversation started, also finding we are both military vets, amateur writers among other things.

What is usually a solitary "eat and run" meal out was a long relaxing breakfast with strangers. Then when he and his woman friend were getting ready to leave he pointed to my place and said "and please but this gentleman's breakfast on my tab". He gave me a hug and handshake wishing me a happy new year, thanked me for such a wonderful conversation them left with his friend.

WOW! that doesn't happen every day. There are some just plain nice people floating around out there among all the mayhem after all

Hidden fortune cookies

Christmas was a very quiet time, drove out to visit my friend Rob, who I haven't seen since May and had a quiet dinner with him and another friend of his. I had not mentioned that I had gotten a couple of tats since I saw him last and his reaction upon seeing them was mild interest, "hmmm I never knew you were interested in tattoos" There are a lot of things that people don't know about some of their closest friends, let alone casual acquaintances.

I decided to return home the morning after Christmas as we got our first Nor'Easter blizzard of the season yesterday and today, which dumped about 18 inches in my hood, and from 12 to 24+" around Eastern Mass. I drove around town this morning when the snow plow guys showed up, everything was closed except for Starbucks and a local diner.

Back to things you can hide under your clothes. I began noticing in more depth some of the striking artwork that people had on their skin last year and into this Spring, which relit the fire under my ass to get the 2 or 3 tats I had been carrying ideas for. Both are easily hidden under a long sleeve shirt.

A couple of examples follow:

I was in the gym locker room when a guy in a suit and tie came in. He looked like your typical accounting/finance, very conservative. What caught my attention was as he got undressed he had pierced nippled with silver rings through them, one arm done in a striking full tribal sleeve, a thunder bird or other tribal bird across his back
and was wearing an Armani jock strap...so much for the Clark Kent look. People like this elicit a double take from me, because the contrast of fully clothed versus revealed is so drastic.

The same thing happened during an acupuncture session. Beside individual rooms there is a larger room with 8-10 beds where I usually wind up. Just about every guys that I see there is inked, and most are also pierced. After all the holistic health center is in Boston's South End. Most of the guys I see there look like they live in the gym. You see them on the street and they look one way, nothing especially captivating about them, except some are extremely good looking.

The last was during a clothing optional Summer men's retreat. Just about everyone passed one another with barely a look, perhaps a nod or hello. There was one guy out of the 200 or so men who was all the buzz around camp. Curiosity got the best of me, and as I was walking along one of the boardwalks that connect the buildings I saw him walking toward me with an entourage of guys following behind him. I had seen him fully clothed during orientation, nondescript looking with a bad boy edge, fauxhawk haircut, 5 o'clock shadow and pouty expression.

But here he was el buffo, 8 pack abs and pecs on display, but it was his manhood that distracted me and everyone else, it hung to his knee flaccid and looked like an elephant's trunk, with a set of rocks that looked as big as oranges. The perfect body and endowment aside, the most hypnotic thing about him was his tats. I had never seen such indescribable and mesmerizing ink. I later found out he had been in porn movies, was a martial arts and personal trainer, a nurse and a Swiss Army knife of men. A few of us admitted we wanted to touch him, just to see if he was real or a mirage....as fate would have it I have to deal with him now on a regualr basis, and he has the attitude to match.

Desolation of the holy dayz

I know it's been a long time since I last posted, funny what canyon deep depression can do. I made it past Thanksgiving alone and intact once again. If I hear one more holiday song or Christmas carol I'll scream, or have a cerebral hemorrhage, whichever comes first.

The sheep with alleged friends and families are in a feeding frenzy to get that perfect gift. So far the only gift I have given is a donation to a charity.

I needed a new Winter jacket as most of mine are long overdue for the rag heap so got a nice lined Army flack jacket at a local South End men's shop with a deep discount, and made in the USA to boot. The only other thing I got myself for Christmas was the finishing cap on my Phoenix tattoo, a Yin/Yang inside a tribal sun, which turned out really great.

After getting a thumbs up from the orthopedic doc and physical therapist, I joined a good gym about 2 months ago, then wound up in the hospital for two weekends; one for stroke level blood pressure and the other for some mystery respiratory infection. I'm OK now and the hospital visits had nothing to do with the gym.

And I wish for...the love
And I long for.....the touch
And I crawl for............the wish

Hurricane Earl limped through here last night, leaving no trace but a perfectly clear and sunny morning today. I had marked my calendar a few weeks ago. The Boston Tattoo Convention is in town over the Labor Day weekend at the Back Bay Sheraton so I decided to buy a one day pass to mostly people watch and chat with vendors and others wearing ink.

Wandering the isles was very interesting, people ranged in age from kids to 70-80's and I was surprised at what a large crowd a tattoo convention draws, although in Boston/Cambridge there are a lot of inked people. Some of the artwork was absolutely jaw dropping, hypnotic, etc.

I was never one for the death themed tattoos, skulls, demons, ghouls, horror figures, etc. Actually was not much interested until tribal art began showing up on people's bodies from the 80's to present. I've always liked tribal arts, something flowing, organic and in some cases almost hypnotic about it.

The portfolios of art from one tattoo shop in Quebec drew me in. one in particular, a tribal Gemini zodiac sign as one of those "gotta have" pieces.....but alas not today, nor next week, and on and on. As fate would have it, the tribal Gemini was not a public domain piece of flash art, nor can I find a picture of it online anywhere. One of the artists from the Quebec shop smiled at me "I can tell that look. This is one that won't let you be until you get it. I have some time free this afternoon!" I thanked her and sighed, "maybe before the weekend is over.

It figures that I was having a good time, then my back and legs gave out from all the standing, telling me it was time to go home.....bah

Entertaining angels

I took the T into Boston early this morning, the usual Tuesday trek, HIV Support meeting in the morning, lunch, then acupuncture in the afternoon. I purposely get into town an hour to 90 minutes early so I can relax with a large coffee and bagel at Au Bon Pain in Copley Place, then walk over to the Pru plaza atrium, and lastly a quick pass through Barnes and Noble before the meeting,

I got to Barnes and Nobel about 10 minutes before it opened. There was a small group of people waiting to get inside, among them was one of the most striking samples of the male form leaning against a wall. We've all seen then a few times, whether male of female, so superbly perfect and beautiful, you can't takes your eyes off them. The only way to describe this guy was the ultimate male pretty boy, but in a rough hewn sort of way; about 6'1", broad shoulders, narrow hips and small waist, very muscular but not bulky at all, wearing a tank top and painted on low rise jeans, an angelic face with chiseled features and tousled dirty blond hair that looks like a stylist took hours getting a certain look. But looking at this kid it was all natural, an upscale midnight cowboy. It was hard to tell how old the guy was since he had a timeless fame; could have been early 20's to early 40's for all I know.

he leaned against the wall in a figure 4 position, one hand stuffed in a jean pocket and the other one holding a cup og Starbucks coffee. His eyes fixed on my tattoos, nodded and winked, then resumed staring into space.

What was humorous to me was the number of people passing by, male and female, who felt compelled to walk up to him and make any small talk they could

"have you got the time?"

"where did you get the Starbucks coffee?"

"do you know when the store opens?"

etc, etc,

The guy looked uncomfortable, after all everyone gawked as they walked by, I mean the Guy was just so drop dead pretty to look at, which proves people will fall all over themselves, roll out red carpets and open every door for the physically gifted. There have been many studies done that back up this fact. On the other hand, true saints and angels may very well be among the least attractive people.

Tat-2 & weird cults

Yesterday I got the second (and last for quite a while) tattoo at the Boston Tattoo Company in Somerville. I like the staff (friendly and helpful) plus the shop itself is open and airy, very clean with one of the largest assortments of canned designs plus they do great custom work.

I got my first tat there, tribal armband of a design I have wanted for 20 years. The artist knew exactly what I wanted from the description I gave her and came up with an ideal piece.

The second one was with Jorge, one of the male artists, who took a normally full back tat of a tribal Phoenix rising out of it's ashes and modified it to fit on my upper arm. I have to say the finished tat was striking to say the least. It took about 3.5 hours to complete.

I came into town for lunch and a peer support meeting at my ASO, and a number of people commented on how striking the tat looks. A few random strangers on the street commented as they passed by, "very nice ink dude". There is definitely an ink cult, those whose lifestyles revolve around tats and other body art, which is fine, but I've got the two that I have wanted for 20 years and will go my merry way. I do enjoy looking at the body art that others have, takes people watching to a new dimension. I'll probably drop by the tattoo convention in Boston over the Labor Day weekend just to take in the sights.

Now for something completely different...

I took the T into Lechmere to sit by the water over an iced tea, then wander Cambridgeside Galleria. I did a quick pass through at the Apple store. This whole "i" cult is too weird, like a religious cult. As usual the store was very busy, so finding a sales drone to ask questions of was harder than finding the messiah. It's just me, but Apple iProducts are way overpriced. I wonder how much it actually costs to make a $199-$399 iPod Touch.

I did get to play with an iPad for a bit, and prefer a bonefide laptop PC over Apple's latest "gotta have" doo-dah.

Into the soup and the inkwell

July has been noted as the most humid and hottest July on record. I haven't done much of anything except attend HIV support and 12 step meetings, or schlep around Boston and vicinity when I've felt up to it. The reality of not having any close friends to do anything with has taken and continues to take it's toll.

I managed to send my registration form and fee in for the September HIV retreat in Maine, which could be a big mistake. I have attended a few times in the past but in all cases I was avoided like the plague (no pun), but that happens in any social gathering, especially those that are dominated by gay men and metrosexuals.

I have noticed a slight reality shift since getting the tat; can't explain why but for some reason I feel different and have heard from others who have tats that they felt the same way after getting their first one.

It's interesting how many people (men and women) from teens through 60's I see out and about who are also inked, many with tribal tats. Of course it is Summer, so a lot more skin is exposed, but the variety of tribal markings and stamps are interesting, fascinating and in some cases arousing to hypnotic.

I'll probably get an arm band on my other arm, something tribal, with maybe a dream catcher in it. I also thought about a tribalized thunder bird or phoenix. I am a bit too old for a tramp stamp on my lower back.

Barring any change of mind, I'm getting a tribal phoenix on my left upper arm next week and that will be it for the night gallery.

I'm recalibrating my psyche, attempting to get the internal 25 year old to realize he's closer to 65, but most people I encounter (especially women) place me 12-15 years younger than I am.

The spinal problems aside, there are cues that I am no longer 25, my sex drive got up and drove away years ago. Punishing the bishop has been my only sexual outlet for years now and I no longer have the orgasmic intensity of a howitzer recoil or explosive force of a DU round. Well thank goodness it's not just me. Many other 50-60something guys I have chatted with are going through similar phases

On August 7, it will be 5 months since I quit smoking and still no real nicotine urge, despite not using any patch, gum or pills, just cold turkey after spending a few months tapering off from 1-2 packs a day to less than half a pack a day. I have gained a few pounds as my svelte waist has gone from 29" to 31", which is strange since my diet has not changed at all, actually been eating less now that Summer is here.

Magnetic inked

Today I bit the big one and did what I've wanted to do for the past 25 years, get a tattoo.

It's a rather nice one, tribal arm band with a stylized bio hazard symbol embedded in it. It's a custom design the artist and I came up with after I told her what I was looking for. The pain wasn't that bad, just sort of a droning stinging feeling (being attacked by 1000's of thumbtacks) that I tuned into and projected outward. I just have to be careful with it for the next week or two, but I do like it and already have ideas for the next one(s).

I was warned by people I know who are inked, "tats are like drugs, they can be addictive." I doubt I'd go overboard, maybe an armband on the other bicep and something on my shoulder....I tend to like tribal designs, no flaming skulls with snakes coming out of the eyes or bleeding hearts with daggers in them, with "MOM" inside for me.

I went to my Friday night meeting and a number of people commented on the new tat, "very nice, when are you getting the next one?" I notice more and more people in the Boston and vicinity areas who are inked, and not just teens and 20 somethings.

Other acquaintances shared their opinion that the tat is ominous looking. So maybe my next one should be a coiled cobra with a kitten in it's mouth on my back.

I know, I know :-) from my fundie roots, when I die and face God, as well as the terabytes of sin data they have on me, God will bellow, "I didn't authorize any post birth custom paint jobs or detailing. Your warranty is now void. Of course I have resumed listening to my house/techno/trance/tribal music again, which is also a damnable offense, although listening to said music does not drive me to rip my clothes off, jump in an orgy pig pile and ingest mass quantities of drugs, as some thumpers claim. I just like the genres and the music energizes me.

I've been attending more support and 12 step meetings, which seems to be making a difference. At one a crusty older lesbian punched me in the shoulder and said "you need to get a copy of and read "As a Man Thinketh"...which I have done and has been added to the stack that sits by my bedside.

This unbearable (to me) heat and humidity continues

Tribal, Techno and Trance

I was catching up on a couple of podcasts this morning when the phone rang. It was my doctor's nurse telling me that he spoke with my doc and the final word on my tattoo advisory is......long pause on his end...."go for it!" I guess he feels there is negligible risk for me.

I took the bus into Lechmere and as soon as I got to Cambridgeside Galleria, the rain came down in buckets along with lots of thunder and lightning; another 2-3 inches in less than an hour that left the air more stifling than before the cell passed through. The weather and has been like this for over a week already and is supposed to continue for at least another week.

I stopped in at the tattoo studio to check out the final designs the artist came up with (very nice tribal arm bands) and to make an appointment to have the work done later this week. I've been taking my Zen MP3 player along with me, seeing as I have not used it in almost 2 years. I almost forgot how much I enjoy good Tribal, Techno and Trance music, which makes for an interesting soundtrack to the insanity I see all around.

The next several weeks are filled with doctor appointments as well as therapy, acupuncture, tong ren and meditation.

Dampened wishes

Part of me is still in denial that I may lose the use of my legs. There is still a very active 30 something inside of me that won't tolerate this, "death before total disability"

I have wanted to get a certain tribal tattoo design for almost 20 years and visited one of the Boston area's better studios. After meeting with one of the artists who specializes in tribal designs we went over the custom armband I want to get. All that is left is making an appointment but first I was advised to consult with my doctor since my immune system is compromised.

I called my doctor yesterday and got the dreaded nurse of obsession, who still doesn't remember us meeting a few years ago in a less than pleasant social meeting; yes mr porn star, Swiss army knife of male perfection can't seem to remember meeting.

I asked him to pass on the question to my doctor about advisability and precautions in getting a tattoo. The nurse was quick to reply, "oh he will probably say no way no how, IO can not condone this."

The nurse then added that he has a number of tattoos of his own, to which I replied "yes I know, I saw them" and described them to him. This left him speechless and as we got into more detail he realized we have met but he has not seen me since he's been at my doctor's clinic.

So anyway, so much for my desire to do something "bad boy" while I still can. About 20 years ago I got a couple of temporary tats while in Ptown and everyone said "it's definitely you, go for the real thing" until they faded away a couple of weeks later.

The weather here has been unbearably hot and humid. Today it is still gaggingly humid and hot but a huge storm system is moving through the, the first storm front dumping over 6 inches of rain in an hour or so.

State of Independence, finding my voice again

Besides yesterday being July 4th, it was also my 21st sober anniversary, having spent the past 21 years awake and aware in a society that is more and more drunk, disorderly, fumbling in a stupor.

I took the T into Boston early yesterday morning to attend a Sunday morning AA meeting in the Fenway and was asked if I'd like to be the guest speaker, to which I obliged. The meeting was filled with good energy and I left feeling better than when I entered the meeting space.

The weather was certainly perfect, although a bit hot for my liking and it's supposed to top 100 degrees this week with increasing humidity. A lot of people (me included) have been having a lot of respiratory problems due to sky high pollen and mold levels, plus whatever else is in the air.

I was out of the city before the unwashed masses gathered for the annual July 4 convert and fireworks (ya seen one ya seen'em all).

I ended the day with an evening ACOA/ACDF meeting that's only a few blocks from my apartment.

Not much else to say right now, since depression has still taken the wind out of my sails.....

Pride goeth before destruction

In past years I always made a rather lengthy eye witness entry on watching the annual Boston gay pride parade. At this point in time many revelations have become clear to me, and I have nothing but deep anger and resentment toward that animal known as the urban homosexual male, or homogenized metro sexual. I went into the city to watch but had to leave as my overall mood plummeted and I didn't want to do or say something I would later regret.

Plus a 2 year long standing deep obsession that I could not shake went away on it's own, only to resurface a few months ago when I learned the arrogant, elitist, hung, inked and etc etc person who triggered such resentment disappeared and is now my doctor's assistant. It would take about 1000 lines of text to describe in detail the background events behind my current state. Someone suggested I writer a book, including that as well as all the other tales from the crypt tales from my own life.

Bizarre, but now at 63 years old I have been thinking more and more about getting a couple of tats....very strange indeed, speaking of 63, here is a torso shot of the dreamer at 63 also note the lack of a calf on the left leg, and now the right one is going.

If anyone wants to hear the story about the great obsession, we'd have to sit for a few hours over coffee....As far as including documentaries about crystal meth...NO I have never used it or any other drug, but I hear it's horrors brought up in many HIV and 12 step support meetings I have attended.

On many levels we are living in very bizarre times...end times? I'm not sure and cannot comment there but definitely we are in the season of the witch. There are a small, but growing, handful of us who know that it's really 5 minutes to midnight and that the recording tape on the supply hub is nearing the end. Turn off your 55" 3D 1080P HD teevees, wake up and go take a walk, talk with your neighbors, read some books.

Reformatting....please wait

To the 2.7 visitors to this blog, I've been walking through a personal hell over the past 18 moths, which has gotten much hotter during the past 6 months. Since I am alone 100% of the time there is way too much time to ruminate, etc. The regurgitation of hellfire'n'brimstone' repent or die fundie dogma I was pummeled since I was a toddler has come back with a vengeance, mixed in with my waning sex drive and porn addiction. Porn is the last refuge of the socially isolated and sexually undesirable.

I've also been looking back over my 63 year long tenure on the planet and realise I have wasted and pissed away most of my life; never made any lasting friends, have been the lifelong ugly duckling, have no family, was never what society would call a success story. I find myself envying the masses who can fall into a crocodile infested river of shit and always come out, buff, refreshed and smelling like a rose, while I get eaten alive just be standing near the river every time.

There's also the lucky rare winning lottery ticket I got HIV infected for over 25 years. Then there's the rare degenerative neuro/spina\l/muscular condition I have that one neurologist told me he's only seen reported in 8 other people worldwide.

And the mental voices of the fundies who crossed my path yell in my ear, "reject everything of this world and accept jesus and all will be made well, and no you will not be healed of your physical ailments, for the wage of sin is death. I am really getting to hate religion period! especially the fundie variety.

I have begun attending support/rap groups and lunches at my ASO to stay connected. I have to get reconnected I have to fight the isolation....which is one reason this blog has been neglected

In ways I regret a lot of earlier postings I made filled with tinfoil helmet and end times stuff. This stuff sucked me in and in the ;long run made me ill

Mea culpa, I have fucked up in the past and if I crawl out of this intact I will be starting a totally new blog and podcast....til then........

No one gets out alive

I'm not quite dead (gone) yet, just have lost my voice during the past year due to some serious medical issues, complicated by severe anxiety and depressive problems, which have been seeded most of my life by fundie Christian dogma. From age 2, I was raised on the sick twisted fire'n'brimstone, hellfahhhrrr'n'damnation that has launched many psychotic break. Fundie religion gets into your head and embeds itself like a virus; for some it works, for just as many it doesn't.

I've been walking and wandering around like a ticking bomb. where my blood pressure can spike to 250 or more over 96-150, which is driven by religion fueled subconscious angst. My blood pressure has always been low to normal until a year ago. After 3 races to the ER by ambulance for what the doctor felt was a possible fatal BP level, shortly after I for in the hospital, everything settled down and every sort of test was normal.

Since my insurance doesn't cover therapy, but does cover all the happy zombie pills you can swallow, I have found a free therapist for now, plus have been spending more time at a Boston ASO that I'm a member of.

Another probable cause to my condition is the fact I have no living family or friends, in other words spend 110% of my time alone. Well the 2 friends that are still alive are much worse off medically than I am. I'm also developing a phobia to my apartment, which is tres bizarre, so I'm outside, at the local library or wandering when the weather is fair.

There has been mass blooming lately of Jesus people, college age kids preaching from soapboxes, park benches, etc. They always approach me and I am always pleasant to them but did bring some born again college jock to tears when he asked why I didn't feel saved or believe 1000% of the bible.....and remember we're in the home stretch of the end times....at this point I don't even want to hear one jot or tittle about armageddon, doom and gloom, etc....and regret spending so much time and energy in the past, both in this blog and outside, fixating on tin foil helmet

SO I am not dead; was thinking of deleting this blog, but decided to leave it up for now or actually start a more ballsy one

It seems the story of my life is that good things come singly and are fleeting, bad things happen on 2-3-4's or more. I've wound up in the hospital two more times, once by ambulance, only to come home to find out I probably have too move from the apartment I've been in for 13 years. My neighbors (very nice couple with little girl) were evicted out of the blue to make room for landlord's daughter who wanted to move in. Now I have a week or so to make the decision if I want to stay in my apartment through the renovation, to probably be kicked out when it's done or move into the other apartment that my neighbors were evicted from which was renovated. Something smells very fishy. My rent has never gone up in 13 years and have the suspicion it will go up to market level (about twice what I'm paying).....all of this adds to the already pile of stress and anxiety I'm dealing with.

I've been sick a lot and recently got out of another 4 day stay in the hospital, plus not doing very well at all on other fronts as well. I keep toying with the idea of deleting everything and just shutting this whole blog thing down.

Creature of habit

The Christmas and New Years holidays came and went, greeted each by major snow storms. The New Years storm began on Thursday and Ended Sunday evening dumping over a foot of snow here. I think global warming is just a load of political BS; it's more like global cooling and as I look at recent trends, if anything it looks like we're headed into an ice age.

The last few weeks were filled with doctor appointments and yesterday one of my last remaining friends, Rob, had yet his fifth hip surgery, to hopefully correct the first 4 that the doctor messed up.

I seem to be slowly recovering from the carpal tunnel surgery, although my hand is still sore after a month and it still is painful to do certain things, like turn a doorknob.

I'm still concerned over my erratic blood pressure, which gets shot into the stratosphere when I'm under stress or anxious. The anxiety is free floating and comes out of the blue. They ran tests to rule out (supposedly) an adrenal gland tumor, but all I have to do is think any sort of sexual thought and it jumps to 200/100. At other times it drops to 90/58, but tends to average in a normal range. When the erratic BP began about a year ago, I also developed annoying tinnitus, which gets to be like a jet rear when my BP is either high or low. My doctor doesn't seem too concerned over the ringing in my ears, a brain MRI last year was totally normal.

Maybe my Dad was right back when I was a teen during the late 50's early 60s, listening to Rock and Roll at window shattering volume, "do you have to listen to listen to music that loud?....you'll go deaf!"

Then there was 4 years of aircraft carrier and Naval air life, surrounded by screaming jet engines, or was it after then Navy during the 70's and 80's when my second home was the dance floor in dance clubs, bathed in 140db sound for hours on end, caught in a dancing frenzy, and when I wasn't on the dance floor I was spinning disks, DJ'ing. We'd leave the dance clubs after an evening of ingesting aural opiates, our ears ringing for hours after leaving the club. And there were the years of having the ever present Walkman strapped to my belt.

It's strange but over the past 5-8 years I don't enjoy loud music and especially loud TV, radio or movies. My hearing is still very sensitive and I still have pretty good frequency response, but now I have the ever present tinnitus that something got damaged over the years, whether from normal wear and tear of aging or aural self abuse.

Not having a life (social one anyway) I spend my days at the Robbins Library or when I'm in Harvard Square frequent by favorite bookstores, Harvard Bookstore, Rodney's Bookstore, or when I'm out toward Burlington, "Used Book Superstore.

It definitely seems that reading is much healthier for me than watching "anything" on TV, not matter how benign the program, plus there seems to be a definite correlation between my blood pressure and spending any time at all in front of the tube. I can watch YouTube or Google videos for hours with no ill effects, but turn on the TV for more than a half hour and my blood pressure elevates to 180/90-100.
Maybe there is something to what the tinfoil helmet crowd has been saying about mind control signals being broadcast since TV went all digital.

Avatar, CGI Eye Candy

I seldom go to the movies. The first 3D movie I ever saw was "Creature from the Black Lagoon back in the early 60's when I was but a mere boy. You could almost see the zipper running down the back of the creature's rubber suit. That was also when you could also see the piano wire holding up the flying saucers in space alien movies.

I was 2001 while in the Navy, a bunch if us caught it at the base movie theater. At that time it was cutting edge special effects; it was a mind blower for it's time.

When the first Star Wars movie came out, it was a must see and we left the theater blown away. When I look at the early Star Wars films, although entertaining, they seem sophomoric by today's standards.

Then there was Alien, a great Gothic space horror story with a few gotchas, plus a bunch of other convincing Sci-Fi movies.

The last special FX movies I have seen in a theater were The Matrix, Independence Day
which were well suited for the big screen.

Yesterday I was waiting for the bus in front of the Capitol Theater around the corner from my apartment and noticed the marquis was plastered with Avatar in digital true 3D starting December 18.

It was bitterly cold here today and I decided to take in a matinee showing of Avatar. Avatar was showing in the screening room with the biggest screen and luckily the theater was less than half full. The woman at the door who was handing out3D glasses assured me "this will knock your socks off"......OK I'm game.

Well.....after about 2 hours and 40 minutes I walked out still wearing my socks. James Cameron raised the eye candy bar with this one. I don't want to include any spoilers and Will only say it's a fantasy, Sci-Fi, war movie, it's got a love story and to me seemed like a metaphor for American Colonialism/Imperialism...well it's full of US Marines in the year 2154 on a corporate mission to planet Pandora. For action junkies, it's nonstop from beginning to end.

What's amazing is that most of the film is computer generated, the
animated movement of aliens and other lifeforms is very accurate and lifelike. The 3D effects are a far cry from my memory of Creature from the Black Lagoon. The effects in Avatar are subtle yet add a lot to the depth and dimension of the movie. Once in a while I'd lower the glasses and there was something missing.

I won't say anything more about Avatar, didn't know anything about the storyline before I saw it, so I won't spoil it for anyone who wants to see it and knows as little as I did.

All I can say, it was what is was, it should definitely be seen on a big screen with good sound system and preferably in 3D

Carpal Tunnel one armed bandit

I took a cab to the hospital at 5AM last Tuesday for carpal tunnel surgery. They almost cancelled since I didn't have any family or friends that could take me home. Yeah I'm one of those losers who doesn't have any family or close friends other than the two who are in much worse shape than I am. I called my medical case social worker to ask if he had any suggestions, and lo and behold, he replied that he'd be glad to meet me at the hospital and escort me back home (he definitely gets a Christmas card with a Trader Joe's gift card inside)

Anyway the cab made it into Boston in less than 20 minutes, considering there were hardly any cars on the road at 5AM. I sat around until almost 8AM (was asked to be there by 6AM) and then they escorted me in for surgery prep; vitals, EKG, 20 questions and installing an IV. The nurse came in telling me they are almost ready for me so she injected a little bit of medication in the IV. The next thing I remember is waking up in recovery with my right hand wrapped in an ace bandage. Those are some mighty powerful La-la drugs they give you.

The surgeon came in to tell me everything went fine, giving me a script for Tylenol with Codeine and that I could take off the ace bandage in 3 days but to keep the incision covered with a bandage. The case worker showed up and when I was deemed ready to leave he helped me into a cab and came home with me until I was settled in.
Once I felt ok walked to the CVS and picked up my scripts plus a box of large 2x3 band aids (just the right size to cover the mouths of mewling, screaming yuppie toddler brats). I was still feeling no pain (my entire arm was numb from a local they gave me).....and then the local wore off. As much as I hate taking anything stronger than plain Tylenol I did use the script for the first two days, but now just plain Tylenol.

The palm of my hand is black and blue which I'm not sure is normal, there's still a lot of soreness, and if I move my fingers a certain way a bolt of lightning shoots down my thumb, and I still can't open a door or perform any other simple tasks yet with my right hand, but we'll see what happens next week when the sutures come out.
It has been only a week since the surgery, so I suppose It'll take a bit more time.

I took the T into Harvard Square today to have a pot of herbal tea at one of my favotire coffee houses, plus I needed a print cartridge, so picked up 2 at Staples, then had a nice soup and salad $4.95 lunch at Grendel's Den (a Harvard Square institution since 1971).

Christmas will be simple this year as it has been for the past 10 years or so, since almost all of my friends have passed away; a simple functional gift for both of my living friends, a Trader Joe's gift card for my medical/social case worker and a donation to the local food pantry, and that's it. No toys or widgets for myself as I'm still trying to get rid of stuff.

I was cleaning out my closet and most of my sweatshirts are 15 to 20 years old, a few not even in good enough shape to donate to charity (future cleaning rags). I happened to browse in the Gap and found some very nice warm ones on sale, usually $40 for $18, and with no logos or other walking billboard stuff on them. I'm sure the corporation still makes a reasonable profit, as the markup on clothing is outrageous (over 1000% from slave labor factories to retail).

As I look at the people rushing around on the streets and in the stores, nobody looks happy, not that there's much to be happy about with the planned destruction of this once great land in full swing. Big push this year seems to be for computers, Hi-Def TV's, video games and cell phones. You can't even find a cell phone that's merely a phone and nothng else. The new ones can surf the web, play music and video, have built in GPS, can locate dimensional portals, will text you if your fly is unzipped, can pinpoint the source of a smelly fart on a crowded bus, can even launch a first nuclear strike and contact the dead.

Mankind seemed to get along fine for thousands of years without cell phones and the need to be connected 24x7 to everyone else on the planet who are also online.

So this is a one arm bandit posting (difficult to do and makes me realize how I take two hands for granted)

The Winter book stack

My little experiment seems to be creating reproducible results, watching TV does raise my blood pressure, but leaving the mind control box off and reading instead lowers it....TV is dangerous to your health in anything more than tiny doses. Two of mt 2.7 visitors have sent me mail in recent months asking me to write a list of books I've been reading or would recommend. I periodically briefly mention books that have caught my interest.

Last Summer I discovered through a neighbor a local gem for bookworms Got Books, Used/Overstock Book Superstore, not too far from my apartment, so late Summer I went on a book buying frenzy (all for under $40 total) laying in a store of reading material for Winter. Winter is only a couple of weeks away and I've already read through a good part of the pile.

Some of the books came from Harvard Bookstore, which is a great place for thinking people's books, hard to find and used books, so I used my frequent buyer brownie points to finance some of these.

I went for a few years where I barely read a book a year, but lately I'm watching next to no TV and have not been spending much time online, plus reading (as outmoded as it is) is better for the mind. I've read a few e-Books online and personally, despite the ability to change fonts, skip around, etc. I still prefer sitting in a comfy chair with my nose in a book when I'm alone (which is almost 99% of the time)

Books are also very recyclable, when I'm done I with books donate them to the local library for their book drives, pass them on to people who ask if they can read them when I'm finished or donate them to a local AIDS service organization for their client reading room and library (leave a book, take a book)

I had to get up at 5:00am this morning since I had an early morning pre-surgical exam and evaluation. It was weird catching the bus at 6:00 AM and having it and the subway half empty. When I use public transport during the day It's usually crowded, with 90% yakking on cell phones, texting, ear buds sticking out of their ears, playing video games or typing on a laptop keyboard. Riding the early morning bus/subway is more peaceful and relaxing almost all of the passengers are reading books, newspapers, or snoozing.

When I got off the subway at the Longwood Medical Ghetto stop, dawn was just barely breaking and I had time for a leisurely cup of coffee and a bagel before checking in. I say "ghetto" since the Longwood/Brookline Ave area is peppered with hospitals; Beth Israel Deaconess, Childrens Hospital, Josselin Clinic, Dana Farber Cancer Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and I'm probably missing a couple including a few clinics like Fenway Community Health Center in it's new High Rise digs, plus the VA Hospital and New England Baptist Hospital are within spitting distance....and that's just in this part of Boston. In other parts of town there's Mass General (a city in itself), New England Medical Center, Boston City and I know I'm still missing a few. For a rather small city that's considered world class, Boston has more than it's share of major medical institutions.

For all the shuffling and waiting hours those of us who get chewed up in the gears of the medical machine have to endure, bringing along a good book is a pleasant way to pass the "hurry up and wait" hours spent in waiting rooms.

I'm scheduled for carpal tunnel surgery next week and have my fingers crossed that nothing comes up where it has to be rescheduled.
